Holster Projects is pleased to present I, You, He, She, in which artists Larry Achiampong, Mattia Biagi, and David Huglin examine concepts of identity and history  – both personal and collective.  Biagi’s largescale installation Freedom from Prison of Perception features two large wings dripping with tar and centered around a large neon sign FREEDOM, and enhanced by an audio track in the background.  The installation was inspired by the artist’s own personal journey and also his interest in the universal human desire for the path to freedom, often thwarted by nothing but our own perceived restrictions.  Larry Achiampong’s questions a more collective journey, that involving the social, political, and racial history of the US with the election of the first black president.  He likens American politics to a Pac-Man game where politicians become characters in his Politicmen Series, where he questions if the faces and appearances of politicians really matter to their messages and actions.  Here Obama appears as Pac-Man and is chased by the ghosts of presidents past and presidential hopefuls such as Wannabe President 2 (Who’s Nailin’ Palin?).   As a natural enquirer into the mechanics of the world around him, David Huglin’s Cain and Redemption are collections of honed meanderings, but all remain interested in the culture that surrounds the artist and are are intrinsically connected to his Jewish heritage.

Holster Projects was founded in 2008 to provide a platform for international emerging to mid-career artists to create a cultural discourse through curated group shows and solo exhibitions.

Upcoming shows in 2010 include solo shows by artist Larry Achiampong and Mattia Biagi, and an exhibition of works by Cuban artists Francis Acea and Guerra de la Paz.
