For Fountain NY 2010, Temporary States will present an exhibition of artwork inspired by the concept of “art a child could do.” Participating artists will choose a real child-made picture that they feel has aesthetic value. The artist will then create a hand-made interpretation of the child’s work, riffing on the child’s piece or appropriating it as they see fit, understanding this to be a gesture honoring the unaffected creative capacity of the child. Whatever the medium, the artist must not use any mechanical means of reproduction for this “Fountain of Youth” project.
Temporary States, LLC is a conceptual art project formed in late 2009 as a response to the changing reality of the contemporary art world. Temporary States presents provocative exhibitions in ephemeral locations and sustains creative production by selling quality contemporary art to progressive collectors. Temporary States is based in Brooklyn and is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)(3) organization in New York City.
